THE GOTHEST BLANKET IN THE WORLD.
Didn't know blankets could be goth? Allow us to introduce you to the Zuni, by Pendleton Woolen Mills. Pendleton has been making these for decades, perhaps for more than a century, but for most of that time, you couldn't have one. They weren't available in their stores, or through their catalogs, or through their website. They were made for and sold directly to the Zuni nation in the southwestern United States, and they were burial robes. You can see how, from a non-Zuni collector's standpoint, they'd be very rare.
They are now available to the general public, probably after the 2002 publication of Barry Freidman's Chasing Rainbows: Collecting American Indian Trade Blankets, which tells the story of the Zuni. Even so, they are still incredibly rare: a quick call to Pendelton reveals exactly ONE available for purchase. (It's $98.00 and in Scottsdale, AZ, in case anyone is interested. (480) 874-2655)
